Northern Great lakes Visitor Center Summary
Our Field Trip to the
Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center
On Monday, September 28, 2015, our 4th grade classes went to the NGLVC to learn about botany. Our teacher was Dr. Gruhl. We called her Dr. G.
First of all, we worked with the people at our table to identify things that we use every day with the natural things that come from plants. For example, we saw an aloe vera plant and the lotion we can use on our skin.
We also learned about bees and how some become queens. If they make too many queen bees they need to fight to see who becomes the queen bee. Mrs. Kouba was chosen to dress-up like a beekeeper!
The flower painting we did was interesting. We took the flower petals off of flowers and rubbed them onto a piece of paper. We also used the flowers to take apart to see their different parts.
We looked inside of different kinds of beans and dyed yarn with plants. When we were done learning all about plants we had lunch and explored the Northern Great Lakes Visitor’s Center.
We had a lot of fun and learned a lot on our field trip!
